City of Edinburgh vs Glasgow Mets

22 Oct 2016 by Connor Boyle

City of Edinburgh M1 were home to a travelling Glasgow Mets side at midday for their second game of the SVL Premier. The fixture allowed the M1 players to arrive early and support the COE W1 to a victory over their local rivals EUVC (Edinburgh University Volleyball Club). COE M1 were without Michael Lee and Mitchell Brown was back with M2 for this fixture.

The match got underway with City of Edinburgh starting very strong. Glasgow Mets were unable to deal with the power and consistency of the home side. Euan Gibson was substituted due to illness, which allowed Kieran Small to show what he was made of. A clinical performance saw City of Edinburgh take the first set – finishing 25 – 12.

The 2nd set saw both teams come out with a determination to win. Several blocks from Connor Boyle in the heart of the set allowed COE to create a gap between the sides. Some errors began to creep in with the hitting and passing from COE which allowed Mets back in the game but COE dug deep and clinched the set 25 – 22.

The third set started off with Graeme Spowart running an effective offence before a tactical double substitution brought Rhys Arthur and Connall Tennant on to see the game out 25-22.

Coaches Comments:
“A solid performance with lots of improvements made from our last game. Very pleased to have still not dropped a set four games in to the season.”

MVP award goes to Connor Boyle for a consistent and effective performance.
